It’s been said, “the only thing that matters is ‘product-market fit.’” Yet, almost no companies have a dedicated focus on instrumenting, analyzing, and measuring for product-market fit. That’s why Mavenlink is looking for a Director of Product-market Fit. Although this is not a common role in most companies, at Mavenlink we’re innovators and believe in being at the front of the pack. The Director of Product-market Fit will play a key role in helping us continue to lead our customers and industry.

The Job
We define product-market fit as, “meeting the underserved needs of our target customer better than the competition.” But how do you measure this? Product-market fit is measured by combining both business and product data together. Most companies have sophisticated instrumentation to measure KPIs for revenue performance, renewal performance, and product usage; but, it’s no one’s job to bring it all together to measure and assess product-market fit. Until now.

The Director of Product-market Fit’s key job is to objectively instrument, measure, and assess our product-market fit. Then help us understand how to continuously increase and defend it. As such, we are looking for a ‘triple threat.’ Someone who is part data analyst, part product leader, and part market strategist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement a framework to measure the leading, lagging and operational indicators of product-market fit
  • Implement this framework in our BI tool with the help of our analytics team so we have ongoing real-time instrumentation of product-market fit
  • Assess indicators of product-market fit against the competition to understand where we have increased or decreased product-market fit.
  • Determine the underlying cause for why our product-market fit is increasing or decreasing
  • Determine how to address challenges with product-market fit through an in-depth understanding of market alternatives.
  • Deliver a quarterly report on product-market fit to the product and executive leadership teams
  • Collaborate and implement an analytics framework with each product manager on the team in order to measures current and future outcomes of product investments
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive market-map to help the organization understand how to meet our customers’ needs better than the competition.
  • Conduct ongoing research into the reasons we win and lose customers to find actionable themes and patterns that help us serve our target customers even better.
Qualifications:
  • Experience leading market strategy in a technology company
  • Rock-solid understanding SAAS revenue and retention funnels
  • Expertise across key SAAS business systems likes CRM, BI and Product telemetry tools.
  • Proven track record leading product initiatives with demonstrable business and market results
  • Product management experience delivering new products to market
  • Ability to query, prep, parse, join and analyze large data sets from across the business.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to find and validate the right data sets
  • Experience managing a team towards measurable objectives
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, including quarterly business reports & ad-hoc analysis, working cross-functionally, with executives, analysts, and customers
  • Domain experience in delivering, scoping, and selling professional services
  • Advanced degree preferred (MA, MS, or MBA)
